Reducing strain and fracture of electrophoretically deposited CdSe nanocrystal films. I. Postdeposition infusion of capping ligands.

Thick electrophoretically deposited (EPD) films of ligand-capped colloidal nanocrystals that adhere to the substrate typically crack after they are removed from the deposition solvent due to the loss of residual solvent. We report the suppression of fracture in several micrometers thick EPD films of CdSe nanocrystals by treating the wet, as-deposited films with solutions containing the NC core-...

One-step synthesis of metallic and metal oxide nanoparticles using amino-PEG oligomers as multi-purpose ligands: size and shape control, and quasi-universal solvent dispersibility.

A one-step and room temperature synthesis toward metallic and metal oxide nanoparticles soluble both in water and organic solvent is reported. This was achieved using amino-PEG oligomers that make it possible to control the size and shape of the nanoparticles.

Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid as capping ligands for highly water-dispersible iron oxide particles

Monodispersed magnetite (Fe3O4) particles were synthesized using a high-temperature hydrolysis reaction with the assistance of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) as capping ligands. These particles were composed of small primary nanocrystals and their sizes could be tuned from about 400 to about 800 nm by simply changing the EDTA or precursor concentration. Surface-tethered EDTA made the pa...

Probing organic ligands and their binding schemes on nanocrystals by mass spectrometric and FT-IR spectroscopic imaging.

We report an analysis method to identify conjugated ligands and their binding states on semiconductor nanocrystals based on their molecular information. Surface science techniques, such as time-of-flight secondary-ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) and FT-IR spectroscopy, are adopted based on the micro-aggregated sampling method. Typical trioctylphosphine oxide-based synthesis methods of CdSe/ZnS...

Studies on Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization of Acrylates and Styrenes with Controlled Polymeric Block Structures

Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was applied to homo and block copolymerization of vinyl monomers methacrylates, acrylates, and styrene with iron (FeCl2.4H2O) as the transition metal in most cases. As complexing ligand either a commercially available ligand (triphenyl phosphine) (PPh3) or synthetic aliphatic amines were used. As initiators, methyl 2-bromopropionate, ethyl 2-bromoisob...
